Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need prior scouting experience?
No! We welcome scouts of all experience levels. Whether you're brand new to scouting or transitioning from Cub Scouts, we'll help you get started.
How much does it cost to join?
There is an annual national registration fee through Scouting America, plus local troop dues that help cover meeting costs and troop equipment. We also have costs for uniforms and camping trips. Contact us for specific current rates, and we can work with families on payment plans.
What if I can't make every Wednesday meeting?
We understand that schedules can be busy! While we encourage regular attendance to get the most out of scouting, we're flexible and will work with your schedule. Just let us know what works for you.
Can girls join Troop 7?
Troop 7 is for boys ages 11-17. Girls interested in Boy Scouts can join Troop 7G, the girls' troop in Port Washington. Visit troop7g.com to learn more about their program.
How often do you go camping?
We go on monthly camping trips throughout the year — approximately one per month during the school year — plus a week at summer camp at Onteora Scout Reservation. Not all trips are required, and we understand if you can't make every one.
